Urology
Mimic’s tension-based haptics has been successfully used in a TURP (Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate) simulator. The simulator was developed in close collaboration with the University of Washington Department of Urology, the Human Interface Technology Laboratory, and ACMI.
The first version of the simulator was completed in May 2002 and the system has been demonstrated at the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality, AUA and EAU conferences. Urologists from around the world were introduced to five new training modules that tested basic, intermediate and advanced skills required for TURP surgery. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and various training centers from around the world have indicated their desire to participate in upcoming multi-institutional validation studies.
